Sunrise to Starlight at Mattamuskeet

Join us for Sunrise to Starlight at Mattamuskeet, a full day of outdoor exploration and discovery at the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge and Mattamuskeet Lodge. Guests can begin the day with guided sunrise and morning tours focused on birdwatching, observing wildlife, and experiencing the beauty of the sunrise over Lake Mattamuskeet. Self-guided trail maps will also be available for visitors who would like to explore the refuge at their own pace.

As the day winds down, participants can enjoy a sunset “Last Light Hike” followed by a special nighttime hike to experience the sights and sounds of nature after dark. Members of the Mattamuskeet Lodge Society will also be on site throughout the day to share the rich history of the iconic Mattamuskeet Lodge and discuss future restoration plans. While lodge tours are not expected to be available, we are hopeful visitors will be able to witness the beginning stages of its exciting restoration.

Parking will be available at both Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge and Mattamuskeet Lodge. Kayak rentals will take place in the small yellow building next Mattamuskeet Lodge.
